Feature Friday – Crafty Hippo Designs

Where are you from and tell us a little about yourself?
We are currently in Alaska but my family and I are born and raised Texans.  My husband is active duty Army.  We have one son, Little Bit, who is now 15 months old.  I enjoy scrapbooking, crafting of all sorts, and blog design.  As a family we like to swim, go for walks, and enjoy the splendor that is Alaskan summers.
Let us know a little about your blog?  How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for about a year now.  I have about 50 blogs.  Okay, more like 5 that I post on regularly, but it sure feels like I have that many.  I have a weight loss blog, crafting blog, and a blog about my family and housekeeping.  I opened Crafty Hippo Designs only a couple months ago.  I’ve been redesigning my own blogs for about six months and did a few for some close friends.  I enjoyed it so much I decided to open my own shop.  It’s been nothing but rewarding so far!  I’ve met the neatest bloggers through my design blog.  I can’t wait to meet more!  At this time I offer designs to bloggers using the Blogger platform.  I have three different design options and an a la carte option: Single Daisy Design Package, Daisy Bouquet Design Package, and the Field of Daisies Design Package.  You can read all about my designs here:http://www.craftyhippodesigns.com/p/design-packages.html  I offer a 10% discount to military, returning customers, and for a referral program.  These discounts stack!
Why did you get started blogging?
I started blogging during a very dark period in my life.  I was suffering from postpartum depression and needed an outlet for my emotions.  As I got deeper into blogging and began meeting some amazing women I realized just how valuable having a platform to speak on was to me.  I’ve been hooked ever sense!
What is your favorite post?
On this blog my favorite post would have to be The Best Thing About Blog Design: http://www.craftyhippodesigns.com/2011/02/best-thing-about-blog-design.html
Who does your blog appeal to?
My blog is for those bloggers who are looking for design advice, freebie blog design elements, and of course custom blog designs.
What challenges have you faced so far with your blog?
I think the hardest part of having a business blog is making it look welcoming and professional at the same time.  Right now, while I’m trying to boost my following, I have it set up more like a personal blog.  To me it seems more inviting and comfortable.
What is your favorite aspect of blogging?
I love being able to connect to people.  Being a stay at home mom, in Alaska, in the dead of winter can be harsh on social networking.  Blogging allows me those connections and interactions without having to venture into the -40* temperatures.
What other blogs do you read?
Some of my favorite bloggers include: One Pretty Thing: http://www.oneprettything.com  A Quirky Girl’s Thoughts: http://www.aquirkygirl.com  I heart Organizing: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/
Do you foresee your blog expanding in any direction?
I sure hope so!  I’ve been reaching out with blog giveaways, advertising, and of course all the most fun blog hops!  I’ve gotten to meet a wide variety of bloggers that I would not have met within my weight loss and mommy blogging circles.  Although, it is always fun to be hopping around and land on a site I’ve been following for a while.  It really is a small world.
Any other sites you can be found on?
You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, and on my weight loss blog.
