Chicken Soup for the Soul: New Moms

Oh the joys that come along with the thoughts of being a new parent.  The excitement when you find out and then for some the worries and fears that can come.  Am I doing it right, will I make a good parent, which carseat is best?  There are hundreds of books available to new moms, but it’s so hard finding one that isn’t boring or that drags on in technical terms.

This is where Chicken Soup for the Soul really comes in and it couldn’t have been at a better time.  I know many women will be celebrating their first Mother’s Day and I highly recommend that Chicken Soup for the Soul: New Moms is waiting for them with their breakfast in bed.  With heartfelt stories that I know any mother can relate to including The Motherhood Marathon on page 159 that reminds us we will all make mistakes (her first was assuming all “firsts” were born late and she didn’t even have a carseat yet) or that while we may all think daily at times that we are the worst mother in the world, we will make it through.

A Tale of Two Mothers hit me the hardest though.  I admit it that I am an envious person.  I envy just about anybody at least once a day.  Who do I envy the most?  Mother’s who seem to have it all together all the time.  They are dressed to impress at all times, they never lose their temper, they have hoards of social functions to attend.  It’s hard not to envy them and yet A Tale of Two Mothers reminds me as that mother watches her baby sleep in the backseat of a car and was humbled by her 8 month old.  Desires are simple and they are content just to be held, fed rocked, a simple smile cast their way.  I myself must remember that I have two precious angels who humble me.  While the other mother might have it all together (or at least appear that way) I wouldn’t change it.  The chaotic life of two very active boys which I am sure so many of you can relate to!  I encourage every new mom to have a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul: New Moms.
