Safe in the Arms of Love by Review

When you have a newborn in the house everything changes.  It doesn’t matter whether you are a first time parent or a pro, things change.  As mom’s we have all heard it…sleep when the baby sleeps, the house can wait, take it slow and only focus on your child.  These things can all be hard to do, especially if you are not a first time mom.  When Corbin came along I would have loved to have listened to the advice of sleeping when he slept (which was never) but I had a two year old to worry about as well.

Safe in the Arms of Love is meant to be a relaxation tool to help you bond with your baby.  I found it to be a great tool for after the after the fact and to help myself relax.  The music was so calm and low tones that it was calming just to hear it.  I notice that when I put it the music on even the boys will both calm down.  Currently, we are using it for a bedtime tool as Coulter often gets wound up right before bed (trying to delay the inevitable, I’m sure).

For a soon to be momma or a new momma this really is a wonderful tool to help remind you to take a few minutes.  Not only does it help make things in calmer in my house, because my children feed off my emotions, but it serves as a wonderful bedtime tool as well.  When Coulter was born we put him down every night to music because we wanted to train him to sleep through anything (which we will regret in his teenager years), we regret that we didn’t enforce this more with Corbin as he is the lightest sleeper 🙁  I could literally vacuum Coulter’s room after he went to sleep, with Corbin don’t even walk by the door.  I like the aspect that since this cd is so calming and both boys will calm to it I think it will help Corbin sleep better at night by putting him more peaceful.

Safe in the Arms of Love CD accompanies a book which goes into more detail about the bonding with a child and why it’s so important.  The book has details of some of the most important times and ways to bond with a child.  Written from a perspective of somebody who knows about bonding and with some PhD opinions thrown in I can really see how this would help any mom, not even just with a newborn.  While most of the content written in the book is about newborns I often think of the lack of material for adoptive parents.  I am not sure how this would work for those of you who have adopted older children but if the child is fairly young I would recommend some of the advice contained within the book.

Ultimately, I am more impressed with the CD and think it would get greater use in our house than the book I think they make a nice pair.  I will be doing some research to see if I can purchase the CD solo as I know a few families that would benefit from it.  Mrs. Sandra (our daycare provider) uses soft music everyday for nap time and I am positive she would love to add this to her collection.  However, I don’t see the book being quite as much use to her as she has raised five(?) kids of her own and currently has four adopted siblings that her and her husband are raising.  She may take a few points but from what I have observed she has the bonding process down.

My recommendation?  I would recommend this set to mostly new parents.  If you can purchase the cd on it’s own I would recommend the CD to just anybody.  We all need to take a few moments a day for relaxation and clear our heads, Safe in the Arms of Love CD is the perfect tool for that.
