Rubbermaid Glass Containers – Review & Giveaway

Does the term BPA have you concerned?  I know the first time I heard about it I was researching bottles for Coulter and then it seems like it has really blown up since then.  While I know there are studies being conducted sometimes I wonder if we aren’t being a little over cautious…however, that doesn’t mean that I want to be the guinea pig for something to really be wrong.  This means that I am careful about picking BPA free items and one of the easiest way to do this, is to buy glass items.

Glass food storage container - Pot PiesLeftovers are a staple in our house.  Now if your like me your functioning on storage containers from college (bought 10 years ago) and I can just about guarantee they are not BPA free, this means I have to dirty more bowls to reheat what has been stored in them.  Welcome Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids – Glass Containers.  This is wonderful so now I can store leftovers in them and not be a bit concerned when I pop them in the microwave or better yet reheat in the oven up to 425 degrees.  I am not sure what I would do without my microwave but once again who knows the risks so I try to use my oven or stove as much as possible.  425 degrees will cook just about anything in my house which means that cooking and storage can take place in one container.  One container makes my husband smile as that is less dishes.

Glass food storage container with Easy Find LidsThe Easy Find Lid System makes it simple as I don’t have to set out searching for which lid fits which container.  It’s a breeze knowing they are all the same size and stack like a charm!  This works wonders when your container tops are the same size but maybe different depths, my old ones all mean different sizes.  No more of that for me 🙂  I couldn’t believe how much less space the containers took up being able to adequately stack the lids.  Amazing!

The one thing that I am really going to have to watch is that I always grab my containers by their lids and have never worried about losing the goods or the lid coming off.  Now that I am working with glass containers a) I am a bit more worried about the container actually breaking and having glass shards fly every place b) I have to keep in mind that glass is heavy in general and so the weight of storing the usual leftovers has significantly increased and c) who really wants that mess to begin with 🙂

So with a small learning curve in how to carry my new containers I am definitely impressed!  Rubbermaids new glass containers are available in various sizes which means that there is a size to store just about any food needs I can think of.  Rubbermaids glass containers retail for approx. $25.99 and to help with the cost (can’t we all use a little help) Rubbermaid is supplying Giveaway Blogdom readers with a $1.50 off coupon.

My worst storage dilemma is storing my son’s leftovers. He tends to eat a few bites of everything & I end up with countless containers in the fridge

I'm wanting to get away from plastic containers. I end up with more lids for one size and not enough for another. Always a mess to keep track of.

I don't have enough containers and some aren't big enough-I have plenty of room in the fridge just not enough storage containers.

  • Penelope

Honestly, my worst storage dilemma is the nasty chore of cleaning out plastic containers to go to the recycling bin. Even the ones I purchase in the store eventually wear out or crack and recycling is the next step. Glass is so much better for the environment to use, recycle and easiest to clean.

  • Mrs. Martinet

My worse storage issue is that I re-use margarine and sour cream containers for leftovers. Then (because they aren't see-thru) I got moldy nasty food hiding at the back of my fridge. ugh! carriethegood(at)gmail

My worse storage dilemma is my plastic containers are warped from the drying cycle on my dishwasher, many lids are missing and many containers are stained from my homemade tomato sauce. I really need new ones.

storing things in NON airtight containers and then having kids tip them over in fridge are my nightmare. I just cleaned up juice of a half of watermelon this week and was SUCH a sticky mess!

  • katklaw777

My worse storage dilemma is pizza…those triangle leftovers are hard to store. I usually end up putting them on a plate with cling wrap over them. Then when someone takes the plate out of the fridge they often slide around and fall off the plate. Tis a bummer…

We live in the country surrounded by crop fields. When it is harvest time and or winter we get field mice. The like to get into the dry goods. Finding holes chewed into the boxes of cereal and such is not high on my favorite things list. So we have to put dry goods into containers.

I do a lot of scrapbooking.

I always have to put my scrapbooking supplies away when I am done as I do not have a dedicated craft table where I can leave everything.

We are building a new home in the Spring and I am going to have a small room just for my craft supplies. I cannot wait.

It will save me a lot of time not having to get everything out and set up and then put it away again a few hours later.

Thanks for the great giveaway. ~Pauline

My biggest storage dilemma is never being able to find lids and containers that match. I'll find lids for one size and containers of another.

I have containers with no lids and visa versa. My husband takes things to Portland because he is working their and brings some things back and forth and some never come back. I am always looking for things. I have opened up my cupboard and all fell out. I also tend to save plastic bags and sometimes too many and my drawer gets unable to close and then it is time to do some organizing. It seems when we try to recycle and save things it makes us a little disorganized. Rita Spratlen

We are renting the world's smallest house while our daughter finishes school at the public school she chose. You have to live in the parish. There aren't many places to live and hubby refused to buy a house here. We have every kind of storage problem there is in a household. Lol. Mostly my plastic containers being all over the place and my pots and pans falling out on our feet when we open the cabinet.

My worst storage dilema is how to store things in my pantry without bugs getting in. Doesn't seem to matter how fast I use things or what I try, I end up with those pantry moths all the time. But I also have a hard time storing all my storage containers for my leftovers. These look great.

My worst storage dilemma is dry goods. In the summer bugs seem to find their way into everything and I don't have room in the refrigerator to store it all so I'm always looking for something that will keep the products fresh and bug free. Thanks for this opportunity!

My worst storage dilema is happening right now. I have a pantry cabinet where I store my containers. The lids are being stored seperately in two plastic baskets instead of w/ the containers because it seemed, at the time, to be easier. NOT!

I live in a tiny apartment and always have a hard time finding a place to store all the various lids and containers that we collect. I love the idea of these because not only are the easy to store but no more missing lids!

  • lollimom/flairshare

My worst storage dilemma came when I stored some fresh vegetable soup in the refrigerator in its original pot. I had made it the night before we were moving so we could eat it for lunch. Well, the next morning my husband decided to move the refrigerator – by simply duct taping the refrigerator doors shut!!!! Needless to say we did not get to enjoy it for lunch because it had been spilled all over the inside of the frig…fresh spinach leaves, fresh tomatoes, fresh carrots and all.

Talk about storage troubles. My kids have every board game that I can find. On top of that they have a ton of craft supplies. Everything from pipecleaners to little foam stickers for decorating to little eyes to feathers. What ever you can imagine. I havent been able to find something that could hold it all so i have it thrown in a box in my living room. Oh my what a mess.
