Looking at the news today it is sometimes hard to comprehend all the bad in the world today, the things we do to each other. As an optimist by nature it truly is hard for me to watch the news and almost makes me depressed sometimes, for instance the latest story of Luke Turner, a 3 year old boy who was kidnapped by his father. As I watch the interviews and hear his mother tell the world she never said the father couldn’t see his son, yet the father took such drastic measures that now he truly won’t be a part of his son’s life for a time. It’s hard to look at instances like this and think of the postitive, yet we must. Little Luke is with is mom safe and sound and hopefully sees this experience as a fun road trip. We have to look for the positives in order to move on, at least I do.
The tornadoes that are raging across the states now are an example of finding the good. It’s easy right now to think of all the bad they have caused and the losses that have went along with that, but I look at it and see our country coming together to help those in need. We are banding together and sending volunteers, cash and product donations to help communities get back on their feet.
I read several sewing blogs in my spare time and see that they have also banded together and asked for quilt donations to send to the families involved in the explosion in Texas. Something good is coming from a horrendous experience as quilters try to bring peace and smiles from their own passion.
All these acts where our country has banded together to help makes me see the good things, makes me understand that while there is bad, we as a country, a society will help those in need. We know that it is our duty to make this world a better place.
With the recent commercial from Allstate and their new brand vision Allstate Good Life, I must say I was brought to tears while listening to the child’s voice tell us that we still go looking for adventure. This is what life is to means to me, that we can’t stop making our lives good based on some simple fears and hearing it coming from a young child is an eye opener we all need. I watch my children and the adventures they are willing to take daily and the helping hand they are more than willing to lend. They don’t yet understand about fear, problems in society or mass destruction caused by nature or humans; what they do understand is smiling. They understand what it means to smile and look for the good in life and even more so what it means to make another smile.
Are you an optimist? Can you do your best to find the good in any situation? What events in your life have helped you so the good through the bad?

11 years agoI did a post for this campaign as well! I really loved the commercial, and the idea behind it. I’m am definitely a pessimist, so it takes an effort for me to look on the bright side of things!

I think this quote is so true. We have to assume good, we will meet bad, but assuming good is a better way to live.

11 years agoI couldn’t agree more. I have a daughter who worries about everything. I am always trying to tell her that she needs to think of the good.

11 years agoThere are always a variety of crisis in our country, it’s great to hear we band together big or small. No human should be alone in their time of need!

11 years agoWow, what a really great cause. I’m sure that a handmade quilt would really give someone comfort in such a terrible crisis. Thanks for sharing!

11 years agoWhat a fantastic message! We do our best to not fear what COULD happen. We use allstate and we love their service. Having insurance helps us to not fear, but to just live day by day and know that we will be ok should something happen.

11 years agoMost days I’m all about the positive and uplifting. But lately I’ve been finding it harder to find the good in everything. Maybe it’s the rainy weather we’ve been inundated with lately. Need to turn it around and really see the positive. Thanks for this post – Katy
