DIY Pumpkin Painting

This post is part of a 2-part series in partnership with Sverve and Farm Rich. All opinions are 100% my own. #smokehousebbq

Fall is a fun time for our family! We enjoy watching the leaves change colors and just having family time together. With little ones in the house I also like to pick non spooky fun things the whole family will enjoy together. We started the tradition of painting pumpkins a while ago and it still continues every year.

DIY Pumpkin Painting With Little Ones

To enjoy pumpkin painting together here’s what you’ll need to do.

DIY Pumpkin Painting

  • Small, medium, and large pumpkins
  • Finger paint or regular paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Newspaper for less of a mess
  • Paper cups for rinsing off paint brushes
  • Templates (optional)

DIY Pumpkin Painting Instructions

Let your child choose which pumpkin they’d like to paint. Help your children get situated and get them started on painting. Allow your child to exercise their imagination and paint the pumpkin how they want. The adults can join in on the fun too. I always put newspaper down on the table to keep paint off of everything that’s not supposed to have paint on it. Plus, it’s easy to clean up when all you have to do pick up the newspaper and throw it away!

  • Cute! I love the neon colored paints. My little guy and I pull out the paints EVERY year to paint pumpkins. Such a fun way to spend time together.

Absolutely adorable, safe, and kid friendly. I love this idea for little ones and I am going to introduce it at our home this weekend.

I have a 19-month old who loves everything to do with art and this would be absolutely perfect for her! She would love it. Time to break out the paint!

My daughter loves painting and would rather paint her pumpkins then carve them.

I love the idea of painting the pumpkins instead of carving them. It’s safer and gives little ones more of a chance to be actively involved.

I’m horrible at carving pumpkins! Painting is always the way to go at my house and your painted pumpkins are adorable!

  • I love the paint idea so much better than the carve idea! There’s a pumpkin patch in town, and my boys are dying to go get a couple!

We are painting pumpkins for this first time this year! I can’t wait!!

These came out so cute! I love the alternative to carving. There are so many cute things you could paint!

Painting is so fun, our kids love it and they’ll definitely enjoy some pumpkin painting. Luckily we’ve got some left from our carving project. Thanks for this fun idea.

My kids love, love, LOVE to paint pumpkins and I think it’s a great way to keep Halloween safe for them…plus, who wants to have to deal with all the scooping of seeds anyway? After our pumpkins have dried, we often spruce them up with a few stickers. 🙂

I love these kinds of pumpkin activities with the little ones. We like to glue things to our pumpkin too!

This just reminded me I need to pick up a few more supplies for our pumpkin night. We don’t do trick o treating.

This is a great way for kids to decorate pumpkins. They are able to get more involved than if I have to carve the pumpkin. Cute!

Great way to decorate pumpkins without having to worry about any injuries. Thanks for the tips.
