How To Make New Year’s Resolutions Stick

Every year we make New Year’s resolutions and every year we seem to fail. This year I vow to do something different, make a resolution that actually sticks. There are some ways you can make a goal for the New Year stick and here are some of my best tips on how to make New Year’s Resolutions stick.

There are some ways you can make a goal for the New Year stick and here are some of my best tips on how to make New Year's Resolutions stick.

How To Make New Year’s Resolutions Stick

Make it Realistic

If you have a goal in mine to lose a hundred pounds that’s great, however, I always say to “start small.”  Make a small goal of 10 pounds and work your way up to 100. It can be very discouraging to change your  lifestyle, start exercising, and eating healthy and you barely lose any weight. Keep in mind that goals really do take time to achieve.

Keep it Simple

We can all admit that we have a long list of “things” we’d like to accomplish in the New Year. I like to say—keep it simple. You are only one person and I think that’s important to remember as you head into the New Year! Shorten your list a little bit and watch how you are able to stick to your New Year’s Resolution.

Give Yourself Grace

You have to give yourself grace this year as you tackle new goals and resolutions. It’s exciting to want to make a change, but there might be some setbacks on the way. I think it’s easier to accept the setbacks, when you know they are bound to happen. Remember that no one’s perfect and sometimes all you can do is give it your best.

Get Started Now

I feel like by waiting, we make our goals short lived. If you are passionate about something, then get started on it now. You don’t have to wait till January 1st to learn how to cook and to start walking around the block. Any small positive change is a change for the better!
