Camping Activities for Memorial Day

Have a special Memorial day barbecue

This is a day we are supposed to remember those who have served in the military. Especially those who have given their lives for the United States.  Plan some meal items that incorporate red, white, and blue or make a favorite food of someone you know in the military. It gives you a great opportunity to talk about the person you know in the military and honor them.

Have a Memorial day fishing expedition

Fishing is always a good time to talk, and meditate. Since memorial day is to remember, talk about the sacrifice these young men and women give to serve their country. The sacrifice also extends beyond the military men and women, but also to their families. Mother’s or father’s who have to work harder to care for and support the family in this person’s absence. Don’t forget the children who live day to day without seeing their mom’s or dad’s every day.

Have a special hiking the trails afternoon

Hiking is another great opportunity to talk and enjoy nature. Talk about the civil war that was the reason memorial day was started in the United States and the immense impact it had on the USA. Talk about the children who have to live without their extended family members, like uncles or aunts.

Have a search and recover scavenger hunt

Scavenger hunts are fun and educational at the same time. Keep safety in mind and make sure younger kids are teamed up with an adult. Make a printout of the items on the list and the reason why you’ve included each item. For example, you can choose items that are red, white, and blue.

Tell stories around the campfire

A fun activity to do while camping is telling stories around the campfire. You can start off by telling the story of the first memorial day and how it has changed through the years.

Watch fireworks

Fireworks serve as an honorable memorial to the service of military personnel. It is a celebration of the lives given in service to this great country. It is a remembrance of the freedom United States citizens enjoy, because of each and every life given to secure this freedom.

Memorial day is a day to remember and honor those who are serving and have served in the military.  Teach your children the significance of memorial park. Help them understand why it’s important to remember and honor the sacrifice of the brave men and women in the military. Talk about how different the United States could be if men and women weren’t willing to fight for the freedom the United States enjoys. Everything has a price to pay and giving your life to ensure the freedom of your fellow countrymen and country women is the greatest price anyone can give.
