Sesame Street: Cookie’s Counting Carnival Wii Game Review

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Sesame Street have launched two new Sesame Street educational video games for preschoolers – Sesame Street: Elmo’s A-to-Zoo Adventure and Sesame Street: Cookie’s Counting Carnival!  Sesame Street: Elmo’s A-to-Zoo Adventure and Sesame Street: Cookie’s Counting Carnival video games are available with a MSRP of $39.99 for Wii and $29.99 for Nintendo DS and PC versions.

In Sesame Street: Cookie’s Counting Carnival, kids join Cookie Monster and Big Bird at a fun-filled carnival, through gameplay steeped in math skills that include number identification, counting, shapes and pattern recognition. Kids journey through the game in the many areas of the carnival such as The Grandstand, Midway, Petting Zoo, Food Court and the Arcade.

This game is all about improving children’s math and color skills.  I found it adorable as I helped Coulter play the “carnival” games.  He loved helping Cookie Monster ring the bell.  While he didn’t know to stop at the number of rings Big Bird had asked him to, he was still gaining so much as we counted each ring together.  While playing your child has the option to play through all of the carnival games or they can choose to play the games individually.  We played the “strong man” a lot!  I encouraged the carnival game of throwing the baseball at the cans to knock them down.  Big Bird would let you know that you needed to knock down the pile with 6 cans or 8 cans or any given number.  Coulter was able to do the counting himself because it was smaller numbers.

Also, there is a parent’s section that allows me to set limits and help customize the curriculum that he will be working on.

The best part?  Sesame Street: Cookie’s Counting Carnival comes with it’s own Wii remote cover that is made to cover up all the buttons that are not used to play the actual games.  This helps keep them from pushing buttons that could take them back to home.

Sesame Street: Cookie’s Counting Carnival is age appropriate for ages 2-5 depending on your child’s ability.  The actual recommended age is three, however a lot of children know their numbers and colors by then so with some parents help they would be set.  Coulter’s big struggle was with how to use the remote.  It requires a lot of tilting of the remote and let’s face it….a two year old is a bit exaggerated!

I love that this has the option to cover the buttons that aren't being used on the remote! That makes it so much easier for the little ones.
