Where are you from and tell us a little about yourself?
We are a sister team from south Texas! Denise likes to sing, dance, and dress in polka dots. Erica reads, writes, and loves “I Love Lucy” re-runs.
Why did you start your Etsy shop?
We wanted to make a little money while we were still in school, and we love to crochet!
How did you come up with your Etsy shop name?
I (Denise) had been thinking about a good name for days, and the tv show, “Hogans’ Heroes” suddenly came to mind. “Wouldn’t it be cute,” I thought, “If we were called ‘Hogans’ Handiwork?” It stuck. 😀
What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
I would say that my favorite item so far is my white crocheted necklace. It is delicate, can be worn any time of the year, and can go with most anything!
Do any of your pieces have a memorable story behind them?
Each one reminds me (Denise) with a smile how I learned the stitches on YouTube. 😀
What was your first piece you sold?
We sold one of our weekly specials, a one of a kind purple lace cowl. It was the only one of its kind! We have these weekly specials every monday.
Where do you get your inspiration for your pieces?
I (Denise) think A LOT. And I gather ideas from what I see in stores and online.
Why should people buy handmade?
Handmade is usually better quality. More time, effort, and care has been put into each project than mass-produced items.
Any advice on selling things handmade?
Describe your items well. Give the buyer a picture to carry in their heads. It makes all the difference!
Do you have plans for expansion?
We plan to continue adding new items throughout the winter. In the summer, we’ll switch from winter accessories to more summer-oriented items. 😀
