thinkSMART DS Games Review

Video games ar very much a part of a child’s life today. It can often be difficult to see the good. Now Mentor Interactive has several appealing ideas. My Reading Tutor, Cosmos Chaos and thingSMART. My reading tutor designed for children kindergarten to 2nd grade, focuses on their reading skills. My Reading Tutor has a teacher type lady that aides children throughout the games, puzzles and activities to enhance phonics and reading skills. There are 14 animated storybooks also to improve comprehension and fluency in reading.
Cosmos Chaos is geared towards 4th to 6th graders to help develop vocabulary, building skills by using innovated games, play, and adventures. thinkSMART offers brain teasers and puzzlers to mentally and physically challenge all ages.

We received a few games to review for the DS Nintendo although they are also available for the Nintendo WII. My oldest son who is almost 12, played for a little bit but lost interest quickly he states “this is to little for me”. My middle two boys enjoyed the games. Garrett my 7 year old enjoyed being able to try and figure out the different challenges. He was able to pick a coach (girl or boy) that helped him though different challenges.  The My Reading Tutor, helps kids learn sight words and they can also record their voice (which of course they love). Garrett really enjoyed the word jumbles and paint games as well. I played this with my 3 year old who needed to be walked though it but refuses to be left out of anything fun. My Reading Tutor also asks questions about the reading which is awesome for comprehension.

Comos Chaos was the most popular though. It is more of a sci-fi game that helps build vocabulary while exploring the game. While playing he has to read the entire story to come up with the answers and earn points. After learning new vocab  he uses the new words to answer quizzes.  My son played this game for over an hour which is really good for him. These games are also reasonably priced and available on their website here.

My daughter is a big Nintendo DSi fan – but I think I would love the Think Smart game.

This sounds like a game that I can get for my kids. Thank you for reviewing it. It is so hard to find games that just are not too violent.

Thank you so much for this review. I really try to limit video games in my house BUT I love the idea of these two games. : )
