Little Green Books Review and Giveaway (Birthday Bash) – CLOSED

As a mother, I try to stay calm about most situations.  I have to admit though that I often find myself in moments of anxiety about the state of our planet.  Whether or not you believe that global warming is a problem or take the time to recycle, it’s hard to ignore the drastic impact humans have had on the Earth.  I love living in New Mexico, but I have to say that this is an extremely dirty place.  There is trash and litter everywhere we look, and it makes it difficult to not join in.  When a piece of trash falls out of my car and lands on a pile of litter, it is really tough to grab a trash bag and clean up the whole pile – but someone has to do it right?  That question is rhetorical, but the truth is, a LOT of someones are needed to clean up this planet.  Sometimes it seems like such a huge job I just want to close my eyes and ignore the problem, but that only makes the problem worse.  So, in addition to recycling, picking up my trash and any other litter I see laying around whenever I can, and turning off the lights when I leave a room, I am also trying to teach my children about the importance of “going green.”

Little Green Books has proven to be the perfect resource to help me with the challenge of educating my children about the Earth and how to save it.  The company is dedicated to getting young children excited about going green through the production of Earth-friendly children’s stories all about how we can keep our planet healthy.  I received several stories from the company to review including: I Can Save the Ocean!: The Little Green Monster Cleans up the Beach by Alison Inches, What Do You See?: A Lift-the-Flap Book About Endangered Animals by Stephen Krensky, Easy to Be Green: Simple Activities You Can Do to Save the Earth by Ellie O’Ryan, and The Polar Bears’ Home by Lara Bergen.

Overall, I was extremely impressed by all of the Little Green Books.  I Can Save the Ocean!: The Little Green Monster Cleans up the Beach by Alison Inches is a fantastic story that describes how litter and waste end up in our oceans, and how we can stop it from getting there.  I got the story to teach my kids about the subject, but I actually learned a lot too.  It’s easy to forget that everything that goes into our gutters eventually makes its way to the ocean, and I guess I’ve forgotten that lesson too.  Do You See?: A Lift-the-Flap Book About Endangered Animals by Stephen Krensky is a great book for very young children.  I was particularly interested in reviewing this book, because I wondered if a book made of recycled material would be strong enough to support a “lift-flap” design.  Not only is it strong enough, it’s actually stronger than most of the lift-flap books we have, and my daughter LOVES it!  Easy to Be Green: Simple Activities You Can Do to Save the Earth by Ellie O’Ryan is a fun and creative activity book all about saving the planet that has kept my son busy for hours.  And The Polar Bears’ Home by Lara Bergen is a touching story about the very real and devastating melting of the polar ice-caps, and how that is impacting the animals of the Arctic.

These books are a must-have for all young children.  In addition to teaching them about the Earth and how to save it, they are also an excellent source of interesting and vocabulary-building stories.  I am thrilled to have had the chance to review Little Green Books, and I hope that you all get a chance to check the company out and spend some time teaching your children, students, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren these vital lessons about our planet!

I learned the company believes: KID-EMPOWERING: Kids can take the lead. Kids can be the motivators and influence their families to create a greener world. Kids can educate adults and demand that they take the steps to save our environment.
