Beautiful Blue Eyes is inspired by Marianne’s fondness for celebrating her children’s unique eyes color withing their family.  “Somewhere along the way, I started calling my kids by eye color as a way of letting them know I see their uniqueness,” says Marianne.  The author first released Beautiful brown Eyes and knew it was only a matter of time before Blue.  “My blue eyed girl was waiting for her book,” she laughs.  With this newest release, Marianne has her family covered, including her dog-affectionately dubbed “laying down brown” by her oldest brown-eyed son. 

My Take

While my two boys are still young and Corbin is just starting to show his personality they are two very different boys.  This is already obvious and something that as parent’s we tend to forget to remind them.  In the hustle and bustle of our lives we have so much pressure to be like one another.  Do both of you children really like basketball or do you make them both play because that’s what the oldest does and it’s easy to assume the youngest does as well.

Beautiful Blue Eyes is all about celebrating what makes one child unique.  There are no comparisons in this book but it made me think how I compare Corbin to Coulter as an infant all the time.  It’s easy to do, Coulter slept through the night at six months, Corbin…well I hear there is hope.  Coulter was a wonderful eater and was eating whole chicken nuggets by nine months, Corbin…when we figure this out I will get back to you. 

Beautiful Blue Eyes is sure to touch every mother’s heart as it’s a reminder of those early months when we waited to see what would appear.  As time moves on we watch those eyes for sadness, mischievousness,  tenderness, guilty eyes and of course those bright eyes filled with laughter and love. 

Beautiful Blue Eyes is a wonderful children’s book that expresses so many things that has a parent we seem to not always have the words for.  I know that while I tell my children that I love them everyday I don’t always remember to remind them that they are unique and that is what makes them so special, all at the same time expanding their vocabulary.
