Once you move past having only one child it becomes a necessity to have some form of containment in public places. Granted the grocery stores have a carts but what about the mall or taking a stroll through the park? A double stroller is cumbersome and sometimes not always the most effect means of containment. I know that while I love my double stroller I can’t stand loading it and how much space it takes up. Also when we are at the park Coulter wants to play not be stuck in a stroller so now I have loaded it up and will have an empty spot in the stroller. This is where a carrier comes in handy. Carriers are small enough I usually just leave one in the car and then I am guaranteed to have one for those last minute play stops or shopping trips. I also kept one in my house when Corbin was younger because he wanted to be held ALL THE TIME. As mom’s we know this isn’t feasible and it ends in a crying baby, an older child not getting played with, a extremely dirty house and an infant who won’t sleep because he is not being held (horrible habit I know).
When I was given the chance to review the Boba carrier in Breeze I jumped at the opporutnity. Boba carries are known for their craftsmanship and comfort. I was not let down! Boba carrier makes no compromises and has comfortable shoulder straps and supportive waist for the carrier. For you infant they provide proper foot, hip and complete back support. With more material for a higher back support, your child can enjoy the view without the strain on their neck. Made with super soft cotton this will be my go to method for carrying for some time. Boba is the first soft structured baby carrier to offer full leg support to growing toddlers. They have incorporated foot straps into the design of their carrier that hold you child’s legs at a natural ninety degree angle.
With buckles and straps and foot holds it can seem like you have to have an engineering degree to put one of these on for comfort. Boba carriers have a wonderful instructional booklet that contains pictures AND words. This seems harder and harder to find with products. With detailed instructions on front carrying, the boba sleeping hood and back carrying this really is a carrier that is made for children up to 45 lbs. Now with that being said I have a 40 lb two year old and I can’t say that I would spend much time packing him around in this (or period). While it may be weight guaranteed for 45 lbs, that is a heavy weight to be carrying on your shoulders and waist, not to mention the length. A 45 lb child is going to be at least 3 feet long and that is a lot of limb to keep track of. This might be beneficial if you are hiking on a easy trail in the mountains or path, but too much for me and the uses that I have. However, this is something that you will need to decide for yourself as my cousin had great success and said she didn’t hardly notice Little M at all on her back. Little M holds still better than Coulter does though!
The Boba carrier has a couple of additions that I think are wonderfully helpful for a younger child (15 lbs or over). For instance if you are nursing mama you can loosen the shoulder straps just a tad to allow your child to drop lower in the carrier. Also, for those times when your child is sleeping or frankly you want to hide them from being touched by every wonderfully sweet lady in the store, Boba offers a sleeping hood. While I didn’t find that Boba recommends using the hood while your child is awake, except while nursing, I found it a wonderful convenience when I was in a hurry in the store. **Make sure to leave a little slack so that your child’s head is not pressed to snug against your body and that their head and nose are not covered.**
I was worried about the carrier being hot for me as it doesn’t take much to make me overheat. Boba’s lightweight cotton material is the perfect material to help keep you and your little one cool The closeness that is offered with a carrier can also mean extra heat. This will be wonderful during the warmer summer months as I don’t have to worry about the padding being too hot for either of us.
Boba carriers are award winners from iParenting Media, Parents Tested Parent approved is JPMA certified and has been featured on the NBC’s today show. For those of you who who are concerned Boba carriers can be purchased made with organic materials.
As a first time carrier I am sold and know that Boba carriers will be the carrier that supports my family and friends (what a great gift) for years to come. I have no need to search for another carrier brand and can feel even more confident as they are made in Colorado and I will be supporting my own state.
