The Butterfly Effect by Andy Andrews
HOW YOUR LIFE MATTERS
“Every single thing you do matters. You have been created as one of a kind. you have been created in order to make a difference. You have within you the power to change the world.” – Andy Andrews
My Take
Andy Andrews has done it again with this short read. He has taken short stories from history and somebody’s life to show how what they did is still affecting our lives today.
Edward Lorenz presented a hypothesis that A butterfly could flap it’s wings and set molecules of air in motion, which would move other molecules of air, in turn moving more molecules of air- eventually capable of starting a hurrican on the other side of the planet. While this hypothesis was laughed at, it gave birth to the myth and legend of the “butterfly effect”.
One of the example in the Butterfly Effect is that Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain in 1863 was a schoolteacher who was now a Colonel in the Union Army and was in battle at Gettysburg. He was hit by a bullet in the belt buckle and realizing he wasn’t seriously hurt stand to fight again. His men eventually held off the rebels after many assaults because of his stubbornness. Because of this our history has been set on the course we are on now. This effect rippled down that if Chamberlain had not done his duty that day that the rebels would have won Gettysburg…where would this have left us? With the South winning the war? With the Union and the Confederacy being two countries still active today?
These are amazing things to think about. How Andy Andrews connects many of the dots in The Butterfly Effect is amazing and really gives you something to think about and to remember. EVERYTHING WE DO AFFECTS SOMEBODY…maybe not today or tomorrow but along the line what we do affects somebody.
