Chicken Soup For the Soul: Shaping the New You – CLOSED

I love to read and when it is powerful stories that pertain to something in my life it is easy for me to loose myself quickly.  However, I have to face the facts that I have two little ones who don’t allow that.  This is the reason Chicken Soup for the Soul books are so wonderful!  
The short stories are so moving and really give me something to look forward to.  Shaping The New You contains 101 encouraging stories about dieting, fitness and finding the what works for you.  With a month down of New Years resolutions it’s about time for the motivations and the drive to be slowing down.  With a short story I am able to encourage myself to go on.  If they can do it I can do it and it’s about the baby steps.  This is what I loved about this book.  
Aside from Richard Simmons who has written the forward they all took baby steps.  The authors are just everyday people, just like me.  They had a goal in mind and had to work for it, and for most it’s the same goals as me.  Lose weight, tone up, make sure that I am ready to play with those two kids who don’t let me read.
One particular story struck me as funny and so true, a simpler way to think about portion control.  Listed on page 357 is “Granny Portions”.    Many of us have grandparents, parents or some form of relative that lived through the Great Depression or a war where nothing went to waste.  In this particular story the Granny always served everything as halve portions, even Thanksgiving meal,  after you finished your halve, if there was any leftover you could have another halve.  Most days Granny had 11 people at her table and didn’t cook for leftovers.  By doing this everybody “watched” their portion sizes and nothing went to waste.  Brilliant!  I worked as a waitress for many years and can’t count the number of older couples I would see only order one entrée.  At the time I would laugh and think get a box… but in all my wisdom as I get older (haha) I know they had a good idea going and one I wish my husband and I would take on.  
Chicken Soup for the Soul has published another great and motivating book in their series. I applaud them for giving me three months worth of a story a day to help stay on track.

    Last year I lost 110 pounds, threw moderation in my portions, exersize and drinking water and herbal tea instead of anything else. In all honesty the only way to loose weight is to work hard 🙂
