I’m originally from North Carolina. I currently reside in California. My favorite hobbies are crafting, blogging, reading biographies & Military history, and I love to play darts and listen to music. I have 2 children & a wonderful dog named Honie.
I wanted to start my own Etsy Store after friends of mine saw pieces of my jewelry that I made and wanted to buy them. I didn’t think I was that talented though-lol
I wanted a fun way of earning extra money. I love to make things & thought it was a great way to earn extra cash. I like to tell people that it was a hobby gone bad! ha-ha!
I accidently signed up as a buyer under LindaRichards15 & realized that you could not change your name, I know you could add another shop but it would get too confusing under the same email account as my paypal so I just added the name Linda’s Creative Box to the title page of my etsy. I decided to go with “Linda’s Creative Box” because I did all types of hobbies and crafts instead of just choosing one type of media to go with so I thought about just “pulling things out of a box” (which is how I store most of my crafts-due to lack of space-lol) so one day I grabbed one of many boxes of my crafting items and said to myself, “hmmmm, let’s see what is in my creative box”, and the name just stuck! lol
My favorite item in my shop right now is the up-cycled Kimono necklace. I actually purchased those beads from a Japenese woman who said they came from vintage Kimonos in Japan. I just adore any thing Asian or Oriental to begin with & I love “being green” when I can-so it worked out well for me to purchase these beautiful beads. I think about how mysterious they are because I wonder who was wearing the Kimono prior to them being upcycled into beads…I think, “what was she like?” “did she craft?” “Does she know I have bits of her Kimono in my jewelry?” Silly I know, but I just love people and stories of people.
The message I want to convey….is that I make things for others to enjoy..I love to see my creations on someone…it makes me happy to see others enjoying my art. I want people to know that they have a piece of my soul and art in each item they have purchased.
I still haven’t decided what medium I want to work with…I’m still experimenting because there are too many choices of medium and I am an indecisive girl! lol
I would want to choose oil painting as my other “creativity” if I could…I can’t draw at all & I can’t paint…but just looking at pictures of paintings in a museum or art gallery make me melt inside…I just think, how wonderful to be able to put on a canvas or paper the way you see the world and to share it with others. It’s like sharing your view on the world with others-you don’t even have to speak or write to tell people how you feel about that particular picture you’ve just painted. You just paint what you feel and others can see the feeling you had at that very moment.
Buying handmade is a wonderful thing. It is a form of art and it is important to keep art alive, especially since a lot of things are just mass produced…it is an added touch of caring & quality I think. Plus you help the local economy and you help small business!
Advice on selling: Do not get discouraged if you don’t sell. It takes money to make money. Have fun with it! If it gets to be too demanding and stressful on you, then you have just turned it into a j-o-b! No one likes a J-O-B! People like careers!
Apart from being creative I love to blog about reviews and giveaways.
I have expanded into local craft boutiques in my area & other shops on the internet. I am currently working on my own web page.
