Echoes of Mercy By Kim Vogel Sawyer

Echoes of Mercy By Kim Vogel Sawyer

Much to my husband’s dismay I am never far from a book. Since purchasing an iPad it’s made me even closer to a book any time, any place. Heck now I don’t even need a light to read, which only means he can go to bed sooner and I can spend half the night up reading which has been known to happen…almost weekly. It’s so easy for me to get lost in a book and don’t even get me started on a series. If I read one…I have to read them all. This tends to mean a lot of my spare time is spent with my nose buried in a book and it’s truly a blessing that I can read quickly.

This week on my nightstand you would have found Echoes of Mercy By Kim Vogel Sawyer.

About Echoes of Mercy By Kim Vogel Sawyer

Sometimes a secret must be kept for the truth to be revealed.

When a suspicious accident occurs at the famous Dinsmore Chocolate Factory in Sinclair, Kansas, Caroline Lang goes undercover as a factory worker to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event and how the factory treats its youngest employees—the child workers. Caroline’s fervent faith, her difficult childhood, and compassionate heart drove her to her job as an investigator for the Labor Commission and she is compelled to see children freed from such heavy adult responsibilities, to allow them to pursue an education.

Oliver Dinsmore, heir to the Dinsmore candy dynasty, has his own investigation to conduct. Posing as a common worker known as “Ollie Moore,” he aims to find out all he can about the family business before he takes over for his father. Caroline and Oliver become fast friends, but tension mounts when the two find themselves at odds about the roles of child workers. Hiding their identities becomes even more difficult when fate brings them together over three children in desperate need. When all is revealed, will the truth destroy the love starting to grow between them?

My Thoughts On Echoes of Mercy By Kim Vogel Sawyer

What better place than a chocolate factory for a historical story to take place.  Wow could I eat my pay in chocolates I am sure.  I enjoyed Echoes of Mercy as one of my first from Kim Vogel Sawyer.  I enjoyed following along with Ollie and Caroline’s love story as it progressed.  We can’t forget about the tossing three orphan kids into the mix.  It was amazing watching Ollie and Caroline fall into the rolls as temporary parents and with Caroline’s past as an orphan she knew what these 3 orphans needed.

Kim really took the time to develop all the main characters in the story and even built up a couple additional characters to really make you feel at home during this time in our history.  This day in age it’s so hard to believe that we didn’t have child labor laws and that youngsters worked harder than most of us worked now to help put food on the table.  Kim’s ability to develop the characters and lay out the scene for Echoes of Mercy kept me wanting more and my light on late into the night because I had to finish!

It was nice to read a story about where the heroine was fighting for children’s rights without being in your face about it.  Caroline was able to make changes to children’s rights during the era and solve a murder at the same time, not to mention stop a couple along the way.  Kim was really able to pull at heartstrings with Caroline’s past which really helped pull me into Echoes of Mercy from the start.
