God Gave Us the World by Lisa Tawn Bergren is a children’s book that has a life long lesson about diversity that I think all of us need reminded of everyday. While diversity is a life long lesson it can be hard one for moms and parents to teach.
Little Cub is visiting a museum exhibit when he learns that there are other places to live. As the story progresses he not only finds out that there are other places to live but that there are other types of bears with different fur, eating habits, tongues, living climates and a variety of other situations.
While Little Bear learns that there are many situations for bears they have their own unique and special qualities. Little Bear learns that God has given each bear these qualities and while they are all different they have still bring something to life.
By bringing this concept through Little Bears life it makes it something that a toddler can understand. The concept of accepting is a hard one for adults to get sometimes, but young children are very open to it, as long as they are exposed to it. God Gave Us the World helps reinforce the topic that we have a purpose in this world and just because we are different doesn’t mean we can’t all strive to remember that we are here to serve him.
This is yet another book Coulter adores right now. The pictures are very vivid and have wonderful colors. He is gaining the concept and I hope that it stays with him for life. Some of the things we learn when we are children are the most important concepts and we tend to forget them. As I read this book with my son it helped to remind myself.
