Guest Author Lorrie Struiff and her novel Gypsy Crystal

Lorrie Struiff will be joining us today for us to meet.  I know she will be more than thrilled to answer any questions you may have so feel free to leave them in the comment section of this post.  I will make sure that she recieves them and have an answer left in the comment section as well.  If you would like an e-mail with the answer please leave your e-mail with your question.  Gypsy Crystal sounds like an interesting novel to me and I think it is something that I will be checking out in the very near future.  Have a wonderful day!
**From author Lorrie Struiff**
Let me tell you about a few people who share Roma blood. I’m sure you know of a few of them.

Sir Charles Chaplin
One of the first to star in movies.

Yul Brynner
He played guitar in Romany circles and worked as a trapezist in a circus. He was elected Honorary President of the Roma, and office he kept until death.

Bob Hoskins
He spent his youth working
in a circus, then became an
actor.

British actors having Romany ancestry—though dating back a few generations—are Sir Sean Connery and Sir Roger Moore, both having been featured in the James Bond movies.

Stuntmen: There are many Roma who have played in famous films as stuntmen, they are not famous, nor their names listed in the credits either. Roma have been engaged mainly in Bible history films and “spaghetti” Westerns.

And, within the world of the arts, who can forget the famous opera, Carmen, by George Bizet?

The center of his story is the gypsy girl Carmen, who is a stunning, manipulative woman that leads men astray by her beauty and dancing. Her lover, Jose, is a possessive man at once besotted with her. He leaves his regiment and is accused of a crime that he does not commit. Carmen’s reluctance to commit to him after his sacrifice leads him to kill her in a tragic finale. In the novella, the tale itself is told to the narrator while Jose waits to be executed for his crime. In the opera, Carmen is the same strong-willed, destructive siren that she is in the book. There is a strength about her, however, and a fierce passion that wins an audience to her side. She is unflinching in the face of death, and in fact, seems to expect it.

I hope you all have found these tidbits interesting. I did.

Now let me tell you a little about my novella.“Gypsy Crystal” is a story about Rita Molova, of pure Roma heritage. She’s a homicide detective chasing down a serial killer the newspapers have tagged “The Ripper.”
Rita wears a secret amulet that has mystical powers and has been handed down through her maternal bloodline. Her mother, Anna, is a great seer, and along with her Uncle Dragus, own the Gypsy Tea Room, a restaurant set in a theme mall with other quaint shops. Anna has strong psychic gifts, and at times, Rita wishes mom would point her antenna in another direction. It’s tough to have a mom who senses too much about her.
Matt Boulet, my sexy FBI agent has followed this killer’s trail from New Orleans. He has a score to settle, yet keeps secrets from Rita. While the attraction between the two build, Matt enlists the help of Rita’s family to give him an edge.
When all learn more about this killer from Anna, the hunt is on. The most dangerous battle of Rita’s life is filled with surprises, twists and turns to give readers a fast paced exciting ride.
All the locations used in the story are taken from places near me, only the names are changed to protect the innocent– areas. Lol.

Totally believe Charlie Chaplin was a Rom. Surprised by the others.

Thanks for the historical tidbits. I wonder if I have any gypsy blood? It'd be totally cool!

    Hi Lorrie,

Great Blog! Very intersting which actors are actually Roma. I never would've guessed Roger Moore, Sean Connery or Bob Hoskins were Roma.

Haha I've already got my signed copy. 🙂

    Congrats again on Gypsy Crystal.

    Hi Lois,

Nope, no gypsy blood–that I know of. Although my ancestors did come from near that region.
I'm glad you enjoyed the novella. Thanks for commenting.

Great Lorrie. Thanks. Hey I just read your book and it is a great read! Do you have gypsy blood? I have heard you are a great researcher, so wondered which it was that you drew from for the book. lOis

Great post Lorrie! Don't forget Johnny Depp in Chocolate – yum! James Bond is a chameleon, so it's not too surprising, lol. I can definitely see Yul Brynner as a trapeze artist. He has an athlete's physique.
