Hailey Twitch and the Campground Itch is the third in the fun, new series featuring a seven-year-old mastermind who gets into heaps of delicious trouble. It’s a long weekend, and Hailey’s family is going camping. The two downsides: the dark and Hailey’s sister’s friend. When Hailey’s sister and her friend sneak off to a tree house in the night and get stuck, Hailey and the magical sprite Maybelle could be the only ones who can help them.
If you have a daughter or even some sons between the ages of 6 and 12 I would imagine they are going to love Hailey. As this is the first book I have read (honestly even heard of) I was unsure of where it would go. I originally had April set to review this book as her children are older and would actually get the meaning of what is going on, but that didn’t work out. So here go Coulter. While he didn’t exactly sit through it word for word I did highlight the parts I knew would bring him in. He did love the magic fairy, Maybelle, and upon great exaggerations on my part he found it to be very comical book. Once he is a tad older we will work on going through the chapters but my three year old was impressed with the shortened version.
While I wouldn’t be reading Hailey Twitch just for the heck of it, kids are going to love the quirky and unpredictable trouble that Hailey and Maybelle manage to cause. Illustrator Suzanne Beaky has done a wonderful job at giving the pictures just enough to draw us into the book but allow us to paint our own picture. Hailey is going to give Ramona and Judy Bloom a run for their money.
Author Lauren Barnholdt is the best-selling author of many books for teens and tweens, including The Secret Identity of Devon Delaney and its sequel, Devon Delaney Should Totally Know Better. Illustrator Suzanne Beaky’s expressive illustrations are commissioned by children’s book, magazine and educational publishers worldwide.
