Where are you from and tell us a little about yourself?
I’m originally from North Dakota but this past month I moved all the way to California! I’m an illustrator, freelance writer, and a VERY amateur photographer. I’m so amateur that I only take very old cameras out, load them with expired film, and blame any bad pictures on the technology, not me. I’m also an avid reader and a bit of a crossword junkie.
Why did you start your Etsy shop?
I started my shop on Etsy because it seemed a great way to hit a different price point with my prints. I was selling numbered prints on my online portfolio but I realized not everyone could afford to have my artwork on their walls. The sense of community here instantly won we over as well.
How did you come up with your Etsy shop name?
It’s the name of my official business as well but it’s actually just my initials. Megan M. Eckman.
What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
It’s silly but my favorite item is always the last one I created. There’s just the sense that it’s the newest addition to my creations and needs all the extra love it can get.
Do any of your pieces have a memorable story behind them?
All of my pieces are based on fairy tales, nursery rhymes, or historical events. So, yes, everything has quite a lengthy story to it. I shorten it in my description because otherwise people would stop reading.
What was your first piece you sold?
Haha, it’s embarrassing but it was actually a pinback button of one of my Sleeping Beauty pieces.
Where do you get your inspiration for your pieces?
I get inspiration mostly from old books and snippets of conversations but also occasionally from long walks around my block. Strange ideas always seem to pop in when I’m on a familiar path in my neighborhood.
Do you have plans for expansion?
I’m always adding new prints and right now I’m reworking my online portfolio to get it more up to speed for galleries and collectors. I just added a new line of note cards and I’m working on a new batch of lockets that should be out around Christmas time.
Any other sites you can be found on?
You can find me all over the place. My online portfolio: http://www.studiomme.com
My blog: http://studiomme.blogspot.com (where I share in-progress shots of my work)
And on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/studiomme
**Please take a moment to visit StudioMME. If you comeback here and leave a comment with your favorite item you can have a total of five extra entries to leave on any or a combination of my current giveaways. You MUST leave the comments for the extra entries on the giveaways you would like to be entered into. This offer ends on 9/20 at midnight.
