Where are you from and tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Sue and I am from Singapore, a little beautiful island in South East Asia.
I have a belief. Life is short. Live to your fullest. If you have a dream, live it and make it happen. I hope my belief will also extend to my jewelry creations.

I am inspired by all the things around me. I love nature and life. I love new exciting ideas and trying them. I do not like sticking to the same old concepts. Thus I use all kinds of themes and all kinds of different materials in my creations. I love to get inspirations from all of them. Sometimes something seemingly boring, when combine with another material, will create a beautiful piece. Let your creativity juices flow.

Why did you start your Etsy shop?
Everyone starts off differently! I got started in the designing business by accident. I got inspired by all the other crafters and artists while shopping and browsing through the internet. When I saw their creations on their websites and in their shops, I thought to myself how beautiful their creations are and how nice if I could create some of these myself. That train of thought ended with the determination to make my own beautiful creations!

I stumbled upon Etsy by accident to begin with, but ended up being the best accident because AllureByU was born!

How did you come up with your Etsy shop name?
AllureByU….. delivers an attractive, desirable, appealing kind of connotation.
Every woman is beautiful and gorgeous and I hope that my ideas, hard work and LOVE put into each and every piece of jewelry that I make will help them to achieve this in a special way through my creations.


Do any of your pieces have a memorable story behind them?
I am extremely proud to share this piece because it’s a first try at a more complex project and one that I spent many hours on. When I finished this piece, my fingers were sore from wire wrapping.

Apart from creating beautiful pieces, what else do you do?
Like any other woman, I love to shop. I am always on the lookout for shoes and clothes. I also love to watch movies and read. I enjoy eating too. Singapore is a food paradise. We have all kinds of food. You name it, we have it. Other than our delicious local gourmet, you can find other kind of foods like Chinese, Japanese, Malay, Indian, Korean, Western etc…The list just goes on…

Any advice on selling things handmade?
I am still new and have yet to achieve success. The advice I can provide is only based on my personal experience.

Selling handmade provides endless possibilities for the people who love art and originality and want to make a good living from their respective trades/hobbies or showcase their creativity.

You must love the craft you are doing because it is the passion and love that creates beautiful pieces. You must be prepared to spend time in your craft. Keep an eye on trends and creating unique pieces that stand out from the rest.

Be professional in your business and customer service is of utmost importance.

If you are selling online, taking good photographs and writing good descriptions are crucial in making sales. Look for ways to promote your creations so that more people come to know about your creations.


Why should people buy handmade?
There is a resurgence in the arena of crafts. People are reacting against our mass produced and monopolised culture and returning to the basics. People are embracing unique handmade pieces and originality.

Buying handmade would mean buying creations that are made by hand. No one piece is exactly the same and each piece is unique in itself.

Anything else you would like us to know?
Every single piece of my creations is created with lots of love, efforts and time.
