A few days ago, I received a classic Peek A Boo nursing top in black, a company which specializes in selling maternity and nursing clothing. For those of you who don’t know me, I am currently nursing my 8 month-old daughter, and I’ve also nursed my other two children until they were at least one. In total, I’ve been a nursing momma for three out of the last five years – which, in my opinion at least, makes me kind of an expert on the tricks and trials of nursing. I am really fortunate to live in an area that is very supportive of and encouraging to nursing mothers, but that doesn’t mean I always enjoy rucking up my shirt for my baby’s quick snack when I’m sitting at a public park or trying on shoes with my older kids. I’ve always been a very modest person, and even when I’m lucky enough to have a blanket on hand, I often feel self-conscious that my back and stomach are completely exposed while nursing.
On the other hand, I’ve never been a big fan of nursing shirts. I mean, really, who wants to wear a top with holes over the parts of our bodies we most want covered?! The few nursing tops I’ve tried on either kept me busy re-adjusting them so I didn’t inadvertently flash my son’s preschool teacher, or were just plain unattractive. But, when I learned that I had the opportunity to review a nursing top from Peek-a-boo, I was really excited. Their website features dozens of really cute nursing clothes that don’t scream “There’s a hole in this shirt!!” Once I received my shirt, I understood why Peek-a-boo’s clothing looks so sleek and attractive. While most of the nursing tops I’ve tried on have vertical slits over the breast area, Peek-a-boo tops actually have a horizontal opening underneath the breasts. Not only did this super-smart design keep everything covered up when I needed it to, it also made it really easy to expose just one side when my daughter was ready to eat. My shirt was well-made, extremely comfortable, and (this is the best part) machine washable! I got a chance to try it out almost right away when my daughter decided she needed to nurse during a business meeting (doesn’t it always seem to work out like that?) I was able to discreetly feed her without hiding under a huge blanket. I have to admit, being able to feed my daughter without feeling exposed or uncomfortable was an extremely liberating experience. Now I just need to buy a few more Peek-a-boo nursing shirts so I can wash the one I have now!

I definitely recommend stopping by and checking this site out. However, I do have one warning for you: make sure that you know your size. The Peek-a-boo design depends on the clothing fitting properly so the nursing slit does not show up or look conspicuous. Luckily, their website offers a handy little feature where you can determine your Peek-a-boo size based on your chest measurements (or tummy measurements if you’re expecting). All in all, the Peek-a-boo company has made me a believer in nursing shirts. This website is definitely going on my “Favorites” list.
