PMD Personal MicroDermAbrasion System Review

Younger, healthier looking skin.  This is what so many of us are trying to achieve and salons have the tools to help with this.  Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to achieve some of these results at home without a pricey salon visit during their business hours.  I don’t know about all of you but I can’t even get a haircut every 6 months there is no way I am booking a facial as well.

How convenient that Skincare RX has created an affordable at homemicroderm abrasion system that can help anybody achieve healthier skin in the comforts of their own home on their own time.  I feel fortunate enough to be included in a recent selection of reviewers to review the PMD (Personal MicroDerm).  With six simple steps that depending on which part of your body and your skin type you will be on the road to healthier skin and did I mention this was in the comforts of my own home?

The PMD system came with a detailed instructions and a very helpful DVD to get me started.  First step was to assemble to discs which takes all of two seconds.  Second step is wash you skin and make sure your hair is pulled back, I have to say I questioned this step because I didn’t understand what was about to take place, pull you hair back or it hurts (from personal experience).  Step three is to pull your skin taut where the disc will make contact.  By pulling your skin taut you are increasing the blood and collagen which will help increase your results.  Step four is using light pressure in the early treatments and to move the disc in upward and horizontal motions until all desired areas have been treated.  Step five is to apply a cell renewal serum and cream to help aid in the healing and recovery process.  The final step is to clean the filters with warm water.  Simple enough and easy enough to use once a week based on size of area.

Well it seems to be coming up a couple of times this week but remember I have no skill or training or know how on a beauty regimen, so I was curious to see how this would go.  I did a test patch on my arm for my first try and felt confident in how this was going to go.  With two disc sizes and two grit consistencies I felt confident that I could make this happen and the next night set out to make younger looker skin.  I must say once more to pull your hair back because this all happens by suction which maximizes the amount of pressure applied by the disc which the large is as big as my middle fingernail.  The small tip is about the size of my pinky fingernail and is perfect for use around your nose and eyes.  Now as I wasn’t too sure what I was doing to expect and I get distracted easy I accidentally left it to long in a couple of spots.  I can see how this could scab if you are not careful so remember to not linger.

As this was a first for me my skin was a little sensitive after my first couple of treatments but I can see that it will definitely get easier and quicker the more times I use the PMD.  This is where skin recovery moisturizer and skin re-finisher are a must.  They were really a helping and soothing combination.  My first treatment took me approximately thirty minutes and my next treatment was closer to twenty five.  I know that this will get better but I am a slow learner.

Now two parts that of course we all really want to know…Did it work and is it worth the cost?  Keep in mind that I have only done two treatments, but I can see some improvement and softer skin.  The freckles are still there so it didn’t scrub them away but my skin is getting softer which will be a huge help now that summer is on its way.  After all, the PMD is not only for facial treatments but can be used on hands, elbows and other patches of skin that can benefit from some cleaning up.  The next biggest question and something that will actually vary from person to person, is it worth it?  The PMD is currently available at Skincare RX for $179.00 with replacement discs for $14.80 (mine are still good but probably only for one more treatment).  In my area a facial will run you $60 – $80 and when I checked them out for my bridal shower in Denver they were closer to $100 – $120.  So if you are really dedicated you could actually recoup your costs with in 2 – 3  months and then save your several a good chunk of change every month.  Now as I don’t actually have any way to compare to a salon facial I would have to say that this would be a worth while cost for me.  I am looking forward to extended use.
