Tip Tuesday: Elevating Your Kids Mattress

Welcome to Tip Tuesday!  Where I plan on sharing a new tip with you each week.  Something that will save a little time and generally is done on the cheap!

When you have sick kids you want to do everything in your power to make them better.   It is truly heartbreaking when you know that you can’t do much else to help them.  As a mom coming off of three weeks of someone in our house being super sick (tis the season right?).  The one tip that I don’t see often is how elevating your kids mattress can help and something you already have on hand.  This is a huge help in getting their heads up a little so they can still sleep but they don’t have all that snot pooling in the nostrils and throat.

Depending on your kids beds size you will need one or two blankets or towels.  Roll them up and place under your kids mattress at their head.  It’s not a huge incline and my boys don’t even notice the incline, but I can see the difference with the amount of times they get up in the middle of the night.  I also notice a difference in the morning and they don’t seem as stuffed up but that could just be my wishful thinking.

On top of running humidifiers, elevating your kids mattress, keeping them dosed up on Tylenol, cough medicine, fever reducer, etc…  What are your tips for helping your kids feel better when they are sick?

Looking for more tips to make life easier?  Tuesday Tips is a great place to find them and my Top Five often contains a couple.

This is a GREAT tip – we have done it for my girls when they’re sick, but it’s also a huge help for kids {and adults} who suffer with acid reflux!

I like to use a little eucalyptus oil and a cool flax seed pack (similar to a rice pack).

I’ve heard that rubbing tea tree oil on their feet and putting socks over helps congestion and coughs.

I like this tip Tulip. My daycare provider swears by this same tip.

My solution, for myself at least, was carbonated beverages. It helped to cut through some of the mucus and sort of counter-acts the irritant that’s causing the couging.

Thank you for the tip Greta. I will be trying it next time I am sick. With two kids in the house it might not be to far off.

What a fantastic idea, I never would have thought of that! Thanks for the tip!

I had a wedge that did this with my kiddos in their crib – they had acid reflux. It was such a huge help! This idea does the same thing and is so simple! And cheaper!

Much cheaper Jeannette but we make work what we have at the time. Pass the info on to all your new mom friends I am sure they will appreciate it. Have a splendid day!
