Top Five: Things you should buy used

While I love a great deal when I can find one I do also firmly believe the thought process behind You Get What You Pay For. Now there are some exceptions to that and below are my top five things that I will let somebody else pay the big bucks for and I will take it “second hand” to take some of the sticker price shock off.

Clothes – Clothes are easy to pick up used and with a little bit of patience you can find some steals at your local second hand stores. Finding kids clothes second hand is EASY and can save you a ton of money 🙂

Books – I love to read and could spend thousands a year on books. The library is 30 miles away so it can be a bit tough to make it there every two weeks to make sure to get my books checked out or renewed. However, thousands of books make their way to second hand stores and can often be found for $.25 – $.50 a book which is huge savings from the original sticker price. Often times you know they were read only once to start with.

Movies/Video Games – While movies can be a bit tougher to find the exact one you want used once in awhile I get lucky. However if you are looking for video games just hold off on having to have the newest and greatest console and major deals can be scored on video games.

Video Game Consoles – The same concept as above applies. Go for the year old model and second hand stores can be littered with the one that just went out of “style”.

Vehicles – This is a major purchase and while I love the new car smell as much as the next person, HUGE HUGE HUGE savings can be found by letting someone else have driven it first. Previously leased cars are ideal because the previous owners generally had a cap on how many miles they could drive without paying penalties and the dealers want to get the “like” new car off their lot.
