Stromboli – Give Your Pizza A Twist

Stromboli FinalWM
My family loves pizza!  Me?  Well it will work in a pinch.  However, I know that it will always be a hit at dinner time.  I am always on the lookout for a way to mix it up a tad.  Stromboli is a quick way to give your pizza a twist and have something new for dinner with very little effort.

The filling possibilities are really endless and for our family of four we usually make two. That we we have the adult Stromboli and the a kid friendly Stromboli. We do have leftovers and they make a quick lunch for Cory the next day.

Coulter and Corbin love putting in their own toppings and helping mommy in the kitchen. If you buy your pizza dough you will have dinner in the oven in no time! The boys like pepperoni and pineapple in theirs and Cory and I like to kick it up a notch with jalapenos. We have used leftover rotisserie chicken with banana peppers as well. You could ask make this BBQ style and serve with BBQ sauce rather than pasta sauce.

Having your pizza crust rectangle will help a lot in being able to roll your Stromboli. Pillsbury works great as theirs come out of the can fairly square or you can use your own favorite pizza crust recipe.

The Cast Of Stromboli

1 uncooked pizza crust
Various Pizza Toppings (pepperoni, sausage, jalapenos, pineapple, etc…)
Mozzarella Cheese
Pasta Sauce (I like Classico Sundried Tomato the best)

Directions Of Stromboli

1. Pre-heat oven to 325. I cook mine a little lower than what is called for on the package to make sure it gets cooked all the way through.

2. Spray your cookie sheet with PAM. The Stromboli will stick if your pan is not sprayed really good.

3. Roll out your pizza dough to a thin pizza crust consistency.

4. Fill your Stromboli with your desired toppings making sure to leave a couple of inches of border so that you can roll your pizza into your Stromboli. Don’t fill your Stromboli with sauce, that is used for dipping. **I don’t eat white cheese so note you will not see any within the pictures. If you do want cheese you will layer it first before your toppings.Stromboli Filled WM

5. Tuck your ends of your Stromboli in first. These will also be the hardest parts to get fully cooked and this is why I cook my Stromboli at a lower temperature. Then roll your Stromboli as you would cinnamon rolls or a towel.

6. Bake for approximately 20 minutes or until your crust is golden brown.

7. Slice Stromboli 2-3 inches thick and serve with warm Pasta Sauce on the side for dipping.

Stromboli is the perfect twist on a child friendly dinner. Plus if it’s rolled up you have a better chance at being able to hide a few veggies within your “pizza” if your kiddos eat anything like mine.

What are your families favorite pizza toppings?

      Krista-
Stromboli is a fun twist on pizza for my family and I think it easy for them to hold over a Calzone. They love it because they get to pick their own toppings and you can make each person their own section in the Stromboli to make everyone happy.
