Newman's Own Organics – Review and Giveaway – CLOSED

Have you heard of Newman’s Own?  How about Newman’s Own Organics?  While these companies may sound the same, and have the same two founders appearing together in the pictures, don’t be fooled, Newman’s Own Organics founded by Nell Newman and Peter Meehan is actually its own company.  This organization has always had its own unique way of doing things, and the way they sponsored this review was no exception.  Each of us girls at Giveaway Blogdom received our own packages filled to the brim with GREAT organic food to review, and we loved it all.  We each have something special we’d like to say about Newman’s Own Organics, but before we get into the details of the review, here’s some background information about this amazing, earth-friendly, and charitable company. 
When you hear the words “Newman’s Own Organics” what is the first thing that comes to mind?  Personally, my mind immediately goes to “Pa” Newman (that handsome guy on the front of all their food packaging!)  Dig a little deeper, and Pa’s daughter Nell pops into my head (her picture appears right next to Pa.)  Like her father and grandfather before her, Nell has the same desire and ability to create wonderful foods for the world.  In 1993, Nell approached her father with the idea of starting an organic line of products, and he provided her with one year’s expenses with the stipulation that she would return the original investment so it could be donated to charity.  Newman’s Own Organics was so successful that in 2001 Nell and her business partner Peter Meehan set out on their own to form their own company and create amazing products such as licorice, cookies, dog treats, fig newtons, chocolate bars, pretzels and more, and today Newman’s Own has donated over $300 million to various charities.
“Great tasting products that happen to be organic is our slogan,” says Nell,  and the review team for Giveaway Blogdom thoroughly agrees with this assessment.  Nell and Peter founded their company using foods that they enjoyed as kids, and that they continue to enjoy into their adult lives, such as their pretzel line, which has expanded into 13 different pretzel products!  They recognized the public’s desire to not only know what ingredients are in a product and how many calories each one contains, but also to understand where our food is coming from, and if it is safe for us to eat. They pioneered the way for organic chocolate bars in 1995, and again in 2009, when they made a commitment to make a better candy bar as part of their Signature Chocolate line, which carries the USDA Organic and Rainforest Alliance Certified Organic seals.

The company hasn’t stopped with just pretzels and chocolate bars, and “organic” may be the last thing you think of as you try their ever expanding line of products.  Personally, I adore the Newman’s Own Organics Website because it provides cost savings ideas for their products and even suggests recipes to help give me ideas of how to use their product line in a non-conventional way (or at least in a way my sleep-deprived mommy mind can’t think of!).  Use  Newman’s Own Organics Recipe Finder, or print a coupon to try Newman’s Own Organics today.  Lastly, remember that organic isn’t only for those of us with two legs….. Newman’s Own Organics also provides our four legged best friends with their own healthful and organic feasts and treats.
Because Newman’s Own Organics has done something a bit different in working with our blog and has provided ALL three of us with a huge sampler, we decided to take a few minutes to tell you  about our individual favorites from the food we received.  And one lucky Giveaway Blogdom follower will receive each of our favorite foods to try for themselves!
The Favorite Treat of All – Dark Chocolate Espresso Bar – This amazing candy bar really needs no introduction.  Here’s a brief list of ingredients: Organic Dark Chocolate and Organic Ground Espresso, need we say more?  Provided you don’t try to eat this “chocolate bar on steroids” before bedtime (like Amanda did), or feed it to your three-year-old (yep, that one was April), The Newman’s Own Organics Dark Chocolate Espresso Bar is guaranteed to be your favorite too.
Brandy’s Treat –   My favorite (besides the Dark Chocolate Espresso Bar) was the Hermits.  The Hermits were so soft and absolutely delicious with a hint of cinnamon, filled to the brim with raisins and of course the touch of molasses.  I couldn’t help but think how good the cookie dough would be and how I would get a hold of some.  Like the site says I wasn’t able to hide them from my husband and it became a war of who could find the best hiding place.  The Hermits are available in Original, Cinnamon and Ginger.   
April’s Treat – Ok my favorite was also the Dark Chocolate Espresso Bar, I loved it – as did my children (an unfortunate incident involving curious kids and mom agreeing to “only one piece” of whatever they were talking about). My second choice is the dried apples. These are new to their dried fruit line and is 100% organic with no sulfites (which I guess are bad). I liked these because they weren’t hard like chips or mushy. Great snack food and great for adding them into
yogurt, cereal and salads.

Amanda’s Treat – If I had to choose just one of Newman’s Own Organics foods to share with all of you, it would have to be their Low Fat Fig Newmans.  I’m not usually a fig eater, and the word’s “low fat” usually seem like code for “tastes like cardboard”, but the Fig Newmans have made me a believer in low fat fig cookies.  Trust me, you’re gonna love them!
