The Dragon and The Turtle is a wonderful children’s book that will teach children about friendship, loyalty and overcoming fears. The Dragon and The Turtle is written by Donita K. Paul who is a best-selling author of the Dragon Keeper series, The Vanishing Sculptor and Dragons of the Valley, and her daughter Evangeline Denmark.
Dragons are a new aspect to my son and he is in love with these mythical creatures. That could be while he is bringing me this book daily to read, but I don’t mind. He still doesn’t sit through most readings because it’s just above his head but I know this will be around for awhile.
The Dragon Padraig meets a new friend Roger the Turtle who has gotten lost. As Roger explains what his home looks, feels, smells, sounds and tastes like, Padraig flies around and trys to find it. After Padraig finds a home that he thinks is Rogers he walks along next to him and they talk about all the things that “boys” (or girls I grew up with) would be interested in.
Padraig found Roger while he was looking for dinner so even though he is hungry and could easily no longer help Roger he makes sure to help him to the end. In the end it works out for Padraig though as he gets some home cooked cookies.
With adorable illustrations by Vincet Nguyen, who has worked for 20th Century Fox, Blue Sky Studios and author Debbie Macomber, this is a hit with all children. It’s colorful, fun and just has a way to draw children into the story by showing exactly what is being spoken.
The Dragon and the Turtle will be a keeper for years in our house as I am sure it will be by other moms and parents.
The Dragon and the Turtle can be purchased from Random House for $11.99 (hardback).

15 years agoThank you for the review, Brandy. I love it that your son brings you the book to read again and again. And you are right, he will grow into it. It is so important to stretch those little minds, giving them "good brain food" ideas. I'd like to invite you and your readers to come by http://www.dragonandturtle.com. We have two contests going that will end this month. One prize is camping gear and the other is matching parent/child aprons. We also have activity pages for kids and info pages for adults.
