Valentine’s Day is a great time to show people you love that you’re thinking about them and nothing makes that message clearer than a homemade gift.
It can be daunting to make homemade gifts for all of the people on your Holiday lists, but a homemade Valentine gift can be given to the few people who are especially special in your life.
Some homemade office decorations are a great way to spruce up someone’s desk at work or at home with some loving reminders.
Homemade Mousepad Picture Frame This is a really simple gift that can be made with any type of patterned fabric. You can buy some easily and cheaply at an online fabric store.
You’ll need:
1/3 yard of a printed fabric
1/3 yard of a canvas fabric
Matching rick-rack or border material
2 pieces of cardboard
Glue
Plastic page protector
Directions
First you cut the cardboard in to 2 9 1/2 inch squares. Cut the center out of one of the pieces of cardboard to leave a 1/2 inch border space.
Cut an 11 1/2 inch square from the printed fabric and the canvas fabric.
Put the crafting glue on one side of the frame with the center cut out. Center the frame in the middle of the printed piece of fabric. Smooth out wrinkles and cut an “X” in the middle of the fabric from one corner to the other.
Fold the pieces of the “X” on to the back of the frame. Glue the plastic page protector over those pieces on the back side of the frame.
Put some glue around the outer edge of the frame and fold the fabric on to the back side, smoothing into place.
Cover the other piece of cardboard in the canvas fabric, folding the extra fabric over the edges and gluing into place.
Center the picture you want to use in the plastic covered space on the first cardboard piece you covered. Either glue the picture in place by carefully lifting the edges or use strong tape or fasteners on the edges of the picture.
Glue the front and the back pieces together.
Glue your rick rack, or border material, around the edge of the picture to frame it off.
When you’re giving this as a gift it is best if you can find a picture of the loved one and yourself, or your child together. But it can also feature an inspirational quote or picture.
If you want to make this a recurring or seasonal gift, you can use craft fasteners to secure the picture in place and the two sides together and switch out the picture a few times a year.
