The big game is right around the corner. I mean less than a month away and even though the Denver Broncos are out for the season it doesn’t mean I can’t let you all in on a delicious recipe that serves a crowd for the big game. Hamburger Pizza Sub Sandwiches are EASY to make and even easier to customize to what you want. Make up a couple of loaves worth and slice up. You can easily get 20 slices from two loaves of bread.
Hamburger Pizza Sub Sandwich Ingredients
1 Loaf Of Frozen Garlic Bread That Is Pre-Cut Lengthwise
1 24 oz Jar Pasta Sauce I either make homemade or use Classico Tomato Basil
1 lb of uncooked hamburger
1 small can of diced or sliced olives
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder or dried onion
Salt and Pepper To Taste
2 Cups Mozzarella Cheese

Now before I start I must tell you that all measurements above are pretty much a guessing game based on taste. I never truly measure when I make this recipe but I did my best guess work so I could get you close and then you need to suit it to your own families taste.
1. Pre-heat your oven to the directions on your bread packaging. Have your bread thawing a tad so that you will be able to split them in half. If you try to do this directly from the freezer you will end up with pieces rather than loaves.
2. Brown your hamburger with the oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Remember the above measurements are closeish to what I use and should be a good jumping off point. I like a lot of garlic though so keep that in mind.
4. Combine your pasta sauce and hamburger mixture. Be careful adding your pasta sauce mixture as you need it to be pretty stiff. You definitely want your hamburger sticking together. The below picture shows this better than I can really explain, but if you get this mixture to runny when you put it onto your bread loaves it will just slide off.
5. Split your bread loaves in half on cookie sheets so that the flat side is face up. You can spray your cookie sheet with PAM if you like but the butter on the top of the bread is generally enough grease to keep them from sticking.
6. Spread your hamburger/sauce mixture across your loaves. At this point you can pile your mixture pretty high but keep in mind you still need to be able to cut these after they have been baked.
7. Sprinkle (pile) on the mozzarella cheese.
8. Pop into the oven for about 15 – 20 minutes. At this point you need your cheese melted and your bread cooked through. If your bread was pretty thawed this will go pretty quickly but if you tried to just take it out of the freezer it will take considerably longer. **I don’t eat white cheese so the other half is mine
9. Let cook for about five minutes and slice. I wish I had a picture of this part but the family couldn’t keep their hands off of them and just didn’t see reason when I told them to wait. They didn’t even let me get them off the cookie sheet as you can see. However, you should be able to get 5 meaty slices out of each half loaf. So the above picture would yield 10 slices.
