What’s On My Nightstand – A Lady In Defiance by Heather Blanton

Much to my husband’s dismay I am never far from a book.  Since purchasing an iPad it’s made me even closer to a book any time, any place.  Heck now I don’t even need a light to read, which only means he can go to bed sooner and I can spend half the night up reading which has been known to happen…almost weekly.  It’s so easy for me to get lost in a book and don’t even get me started on a series.  If I read one…I have to read them all.  This tends to mean a lot of my spare time is spent with my nose buried in a book and it’s truly a blessing that I can read quickly.

This week on my nightstand you would have found A Lady In Defiance.

A Lady In Defiance by Heather Blanton

About A Lady In Defiance

…It’s his town and he dares God to step foot in it.
Charles McIntyre owns everything and everyone in the lawless, godless mining town of Defiance. When three good, Christian sisters from his beloved South show up stranded, alone, and offering to open a “nice” hotel, he is intrigued enough to let them stay…especially since he sees feisty middle sister Naomi as a possible conquest. But Naomi, angry with God for widowing her, wants no part of Defiance or the saloon-owning, prostitute-keeping Mr. McIntyre. It would seem however, that God has gone to elaborate lengths to bring them together. The question is, “Why?” Does God really have a plan for each and every life?

For the rebellious residents of this remote mountain town, the answer will surely be astounding.

My Thoughts On A Lady In Defiance

Being a Colorado girl and one who loves reading about the history of little mining towns it’s no question this was a win for me.  My husband can vouch for that as he and the kids had to have sandwiches for three meals today because I wouldn’t let my nose leave this book.  I was instantly drawn into A Lady In Defiance as I start out learning the fire that is in Naomi as she loses her husband on the trail to California all so that she and Rebecca could protect their younger sister Hannah’s honor.  At least try to give her a fresh start.

Having barely lost her husband she knows that they must continue on the trail and in her dreams she is spoken to by God, a God which she firmly believes knows what is best for her, to Defiance.  Defiance is a whole in the wall town in Colorado filled with gambling, prostitutes, and a man who seems to run the whole town.  The tension is laid in place from the start and I must say I wasn’t sure whether Mr. McIntyer would be friend or foe from the start.  That left me wanting more because I had to know how he would play out in the story.  By now I always know there is a villain and hero and it’s generally known within the first couple pages.  This one took me a couple of chapters to truly determine which Mr. McIntyer was going to be.

I loved getting into A Lady in Defiance and I can’t wait for a second in the series, author Heather Blanton has plenty of places to take this series.  Should she start with the ever present love between Ian and Rebecca?  Perhaps follow Hannah and Billy?  Please Heather don’t leave us hanging now, if only I had known that A Lady in Defiance was just released in February 2013 I may have waited another year to read it and hope that the second would already be out.  It looks as if I might have to wait for awhile to see where this series (I hope) takes this trio of sisters.

I was so intrigued about A Lady In Defiance I had to hit up Wikipedia  instantly to find out exactly where Defiance had been located in it’s day, welcome Glenwood Springs!

What is your favorite genre to read?  Can we find a book on your nightstand?  If so what is it?  Last good book you read?

I purchase most of my books through Amazon because it’s easy to have them delivered wirelessly instantly.  I can’t stand to wait on a good book! 🙂

Brandy, thank you so very much for the unsolicited review. Praise the Lord you liked my book! You and I sound like kindred spirits as I love reading as well and think Colorado is God’s country. So I’ll let you in on a few secrets. Yes, I am writing the sequel! A Lady in Defiance met with miraculous success last year (and I do mean miraculous), allowing me to quit my job and write full-time. Since each sister has her own story going, it takes me a little longer to write a book in this series than a more straightforward romance, but I pray it will be worth the wait. Here’s another secret: a complicated story with multiple points-of-view is not something a traditional publisher likes to see. However, so many people have connected with this story as it was written, that’s how I’m handling the sequel. And don’t skip the Foreword! It tells the story of my sister Susan who is the inspiration for Hannah! Thanks, again, Brandy for your kind words and if you would like to give-away copies of A Lady in Defiance, just give me a shout back!
