This kids craft is super easy to make and if you are into crafting with your kids then you most likely have the majority of these supplies at home but if not, don’t worry, there’s a reason I chose the Dollar Store for this Monster Bookmark Craft!

The great thing about this kids craft is that the craft supplies required usually get packed in assortments of colors and in decent quantities which means that you could have the kids make 3 or 4 of these Dollar Store Monster Bookmarks at a time, keeping them busy on those cooler, wet days when outdoor playing conditions are not ideal.

Let them swap out their different monster bookmarks when they finish a book, setting a goal for them to keep up with their reading on a daily basis.

Excited to start? Here is what you are going to need to make these larger-than-life DIY Dollar Store bookmarks.

*Please note: Even though this DIY craft calls for the use of a low-temperature glue gun, I always recommend parental supervision and assistance whenever children handle tools such as glue guns, especially the younger children.

Dollar Store Monster Bookmark Craft

Level of Difficulty: Easy

Total Time: Approx. 30 mins to 1 hour

Type: Kids Craft

Supplies Needed

  • Dollar Store Large Plain Craft Sticks – one for each bookmark
  • Dollar Store Pom Poms – Assorted Colors
  • Dollar Store Chenille Stems (otherwise known as Pipe Cleaners) – Assorted Colors
  • Dollar Store Wiggle Eyes – Assorted
  • Dollar Store Washable Markers – Assorted Colors
  • Glue Sticks

Tools Needed

  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Low-Temperature Glue Gun

Directions:

  1. Prep an area in the house where you feel more comfortable with the kids getting creative and a bit messy. Placing an old towel down or mat on a tabletop surface will help prevent markers from staining your tables and from glue to get onto your furniture surfaces.
  2. Color all sides of the craft sticks with washable markers and set them aside to dry on a designed surface like a tray.
  3. Carefully insert a sharpened pencil into a large pom-pom to create a hole.  Place a small amount of low-temperature glue on the chenille stem and insert it into the pom-pom.
  4. Holding the pom-pom at the top of the craft stick, wrap the chenille stem around three times.  Clip the remaining length of the chenille stem with scissors and secure it with glue.
  5. Create the monsters by attaching the remaining chenille stems, wiggle eyes and smaller pom-poms with the glue gun.
  6. And you’re done! Now your kids can show off their new DIY crafts whenever they reach for their books.
